Lent is the season for getting ready for the miracle of Easter. In Lent, we take on practices that bring us closer to God and give up things that pull us away from God. This year, the FISH community will focus on growing closer to God by being better Bible readers, better prayers, and better helpers of others. Come to church on Ash Wednesday at noon or at 6pm (Family Service) to be part of the ancient ritual of wearing ashes, and to be fed for the Lenten journey at our Holy Table. Choose a children's Bible to help you read the stories at home, and pick up a mite box for our offering for Haiti. And don't forget to bring canned food for AFAC every Sunday!
Read it.This past Sunday's Gospel story is the Transfiguration - perhaps the ultimate Ah-HA! moment. Read it again, and imagine, if you had been there, how you would have felt differently about Jesus.
Count it.Count the number of windows in your home.
Discuss it.77% of Haitians are living at the poverty line. The earthquake in 2010 damaged 190,000 homes. There were 2 million people who survived the earthquake and were displaced.
Pray about it.Thank God for something you have in your home, placing a coin in your mite box for each thing you name. Pray for those whose basic housing needs are not met.
