For our Lenten journey this year, we have heard stories from the Old Testament and the Gospels that help us to understand how God changes our lives in Baptism. We have learned that we share the same baptism as Jesus, and that we belong to God forever. When we are baptized, we promise to try to say "no" to evil and "yes" to God's loving and life-giving ways. The water we use in Baptism is a sign of the great work God, through the Holy Spirit, is doing. And, like Lazarus, we get new life.
Now, we prepare to walk with Jesus through the last week of his life here on earth. In marking this holy time, we remember all that God has done for us and look forward to the joy of Easter. Wherever you are, plan to find a way to remember each day what happened in Jesus' life. Check the "Holy Week to Go" tab, above, if you will be traveling and join us at church if you're here.

Read it.The story of Ezekiel's dream of God breathing life into a valley full of dry bones has inspired prisoners, captives and slaves for millennia. For those of us who move freely through society, can we still be slaves to something? What keeps us from loving God with our whole heart? Just as Jesus called for them to unbind Lazarus, Jesus wants us to be free from anything that we love more than God.

Count it.Count how many ways you use electricity in a single day. Include home, school, work, and anywhere else you go (traffic light? restaurant?).
|
Discuss it.Lights go out for several hours each day in Port-au-Prince. In rural Haiti, only 5% of people have access to electricity.
|
Pray about it.Thank God for our ready supply of electricity. Name the ways you use electricity, placing a coin in your mite box for each thing you name. Pray for those who live without it.
