PENTECOST
We are now in the season after Pentecost. It begins on the Monday following Pentecost, and continues through most of the summer and autumn. It may include as many as twenty-eight Sundays, depending on the date of Easter. This includes Trinity Sunday which is the First Sunday after Pentecost. This period is also understood by some as "ordinary time," a period of the church year not dedicated to a particular season or observance. The color we see in church during Pentecost is GREEN.
Bible Reading
God's people always read the Bible together when we gather at church. In the Episcopal church, our readings follow a pre-selected order called the Lectionary. Readings from the Old Testament, the Psalms, the Epistles (letters) and the Gospels are always included in the Choral Eucharist. In the Family Service, our story is usually based on the reading from the Gospel.
Whether you were able to come to church last Sunday or not, you may come to this page each week to read the Gospel lesson together. You might want to follow a program for reading the Gospel together, such as Lectio Divina, or you might just want to take turns reading it. Try discussing the conversation prompt, or using the prayer starter, that is provided with each reading (or adapt them to suit your family's style!).
